Color Illusion

The applet shows a central black dot and a circle of colored dots around. You are to concentrate on central dot. You will start seeing some moving dots of a color which in not there at all. With choice of 8 colors by slider you can enjoy the illusion. (Click on screen and choose color by slider and start animation by click of the button).

This is a Java Applet created using GeoGebra from www.geogebra.org - it looks like you don't have Java installed, please go to www.java.com

My explanation for the illusion. When one stares at a color for some time and then look away one sees opposite color. This may be due to fatigue of the eye. Here instead of looking away the dots are moved. The pair of opposite colors are (Black-White, Red-Cyan, Green-Magenta & Blue-Yellow). All pairs may be seen.
